Blackpool looking to the future

Headland ConstructionBlackpool is synonymous with fun, excitement and new experiences for people from all sections of British Society. It occupies a unique position in the national consciousness and intends to retain and enhance its special relationship with the rest of the UK by creating a unique entertainment experience and a successful antidote to the routine of 21st century life. To do so ReBlackpool has embarked on an ambitious Resort Masterplan that will transform the resort physically and in spirit, to create a year round business and entertainment destination.

The Masterplan is a 15-year regeneration plan that focuses on the resort core - an area 3 miles (5km long) and 0.6 miles (1km) deep. Starting from Blackpool International Airport, it stretches from the Pleasure Beach to North Pier and contains the famous Golden Mile and Blackpool Tower, the connecting town centre and sea facing frontages, major points of arrival by road and rail and the surrounding, dense neighbourhoods of holiday accommodation.

Central CorridorAreas of the town have already been regenerated to great effect. The Southern Gateway The Southern Gateway  project has transformed an under-utilised and dilapidated space into a regularly used public arena. Restored walkways are complemented by works of public art, including the world's largest mirror ball, a modern lighting scheme, and innovative swivelling wind shelters that have recently been awarded a National Civic Trust Award. And George Bankcoft Park has transformed existing car parking into a user-friendly landscaped area, and created a new recreational park with two 20-meter high climbing towers.

These projects are just the start. Further regeneration of the town is planned: For further information visit www.reblackpool.com.
